It started at the District Building. People were there to see the casket lying in state.

The photographers gathered in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue to catch a shot of the casket coming out of the building. Roy Lewis (center) and Lateef Magnum (right) were there to capture it.

Marion Barry's last ride by the National Mall, past the US Capitol and the Washington Monument.
It was a caravan of black cars and DC emergency vehicles.

Students from a nearby charter school show their respect to the former mayor and councilman as his hearse passes on M Street SE near the Navy Yard.
People near the Navy Yard greet the caravan lead by the hearse carrying the body of the Honorable Marion S. Barry Jr.
On the highway, several people stopped their cars to be able to take a picture with their cell phone as the caravan passes.
The hearse enters the 11th Street Bridge. . .
. . . and comes off the bridge into Anacostia where the crowd got larger and a lot more rollicking.
Coming up Martin Luther Kind Jr. Avenue, the hearse approaches The Big Chair.
People are waiting to greet the caravan.
It stops in front of The Big Chair because it cannot proceed due to all the people gathered round it.
Others wait patiently for the caravan to pass. Ward 8 loved their council member.
It proceeded a little further and was stopped again on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
People came out to the street.
The mayor's son Christopher Barrry got out of the car and greeted the well wishers.
Cell phones were everywhere.
Commemorative memorabilia was produced for the event.

Lots of children were out waiting in the rain to say goodbye to their beloved councilman.
Waiting at the corner of Howard Road and MLK Jr. Avenue in front of the United Black Fund building are many children and their care givers. Three older women raised their fists in solidarity with the Honorable Marion S. Barry Jr. as his hearse passes by them in front of the United Black Fund, Inc.

The Ballou High School Marching Band begins to step on it and marches by the media truck to get in front of the procession as it makes its way up MLK Jr. Avenue.

The caravan continues on to Mississippi Avenue.
It stops in front of the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center where the Mayor's son and former wife Cora Masters Barry go to the front for a few minutes.
When the caravan continues, the mayor's son continues walking.
On Wheeler Road, a group of small children are waiting to pay their respects to the late Marion S. Barry Jr.
It turns into the parking lot of the United Medical Center on Southern Avenue.
At the time the casket is being removed from the hearse to be transported to the caisson, there was a flyover of Air Force jets.
The casket is put onto the waiting horse-drawn caisson.
It leaves the United Medical Center to the cheers and cameras of UMC staff.
People are still waiting along Southern Avenue SE for the caisson to pass, and taking pictures with cell phones.
He arrives at the Temple of Praise church in SE DC by 1:00 PM, right on time.
Waiting at the church are the DC MPD Honor Guard, to remove the casket from the caisson and carry it into the church.
The continuing beat of the drum was supplied by this man. The mood began to dim from being festive.
The people of Ward 8 said goodbye to their beloved Council Member Marion S. Barry Jr.
